For anyone who has the PC or Steam version, I recently discovered the New Threat Mod. It ups the difficulty A LOT, adds new items, bosses, abilities, and it looks GORGEOUS. I can't get out of the first reactor at the moment (yes it IS that hard) but have already loved the new additions I have seen so far:
